I was constantly bothered by a pop up which was apparently AOL Companion. To my knowledge this computer has never used AOL, but it may have been installed originally.
I went through a process to remove AOL. The AOL pop up has dissappeared, but much else has been messed up. I no longer have full control panel ability.
Trying a “restore” solution, I find that early restore points have been removed or blocked.
AOL you got me. I surrender. You are wonderful, and I hope you continue to feel proud.
