One of NASA’s longest running technology transfer programs is the Computer Software Management and Information Center (COSMIC). Operated by the University of Georgia in Athens since 1966, COSMIC distributes advanced computer software programs developed with NASA funding in support of various projects. As part of the NASA Technology Transfer Network, COSMIC’s mission is to provide government organizations, private companies and universities with access to these programs.
COSMIC’s software catalog contains more than 1,200 computer programs, and ongoing NASA programs in aeronautics and space research provides a constant in-flow of new computer code to COSMIC. These programs are available for re-use under NASA’s Technology Transfer Program, which is managed by the agency’s Office of Advanced Concepts and Technology.
For those organizations receiving software, source code is included and, unless otherwise noted, programs and documents may be copied without restriction as long as they are used by the acquiring institution. In some cases, educational discounts may apply.
