By some miracle of god I was able to turn off the system restore. However, whenever I run a anti-malware program, the virus prevents it from running. Any suggestions?
I am having the same issues with my laptop. I tried you instructions but it seems the virus is preventing me from getting to the location in order to shut off the system restore. I tried right clicking on computer in the start menu and going to properties but nothing ever shows up. I also tried accessing it through the control panel. I get to the point where it has the computer rating and how many gigs of ram the computer has and in the top left corner shows system restore but when I click on it nothing happens. I even tried msconfig as well. If anyone has any other way of getting to it please let me know.
Today I got a virus from a search I clicked on. It had me baffled. My PC was acting strange. I saw in Windows Task Manager what looked like an update process. I removed it. Restarted my PC and it hung at Windows shutting down. Several times I had to power off manually. System Restore showed a restore point for a Windows Update, of which I had not downloaded. I did a Restore. I looked again at the restore points again and it showed another Windows Update restore point. I went into safemode and tried Combofix on my desktop. It started running and then said it was outdated and needed to shut down. clicking yes or no closed it down. Not only did it shut down Combofix but it deleted it from my PC. I tried a USB stick with my tools on it. Safemode again. Combofix once again ran and shut down and it was deleted from my memory stick. Now you know you have a problem. I turned off System Restore now knowing it was restoring itself at startup and in the Restore System. I downloaded a new Combofix. Ran it in Safemode. Turned System Restore back on. Created a new restore point . Checked Task Manager. Virus gone.
