Mr. Chen Shui-bian would like to give you 11.7 million to launder some money or so goes the email. This scam claims that Mr. Shui-bian from Malaysia has $39 million dollars and needs to get out of the country and transfer the money without anyone knowing it’s his – in return, you’ll receive $11.7 million dollars (30%).
It’s all a big story to con you into responding at which time they will try to convince you to give up your personal information and send money for transfer fees (which don’t really exist).
You’ll notice they mention news articles and websites. These articles are either real and the person sending the email (scammer) is using their story as a front to appear real, or, the articles are paid for and not real at all in which case the news agency will eventually remove the article but until then, a good number of people are fooled.
