Looking for a spam blocker – if so, you have a great list of free email filters you can use to block unwanted email from your business or personal email account.
Camel’s Eye:
This is a pop3 email filter supporting DNS blacklists, Razor and allows rules that will search the header of email messages and filter out matches.
Allows the use of regular expressions for matching spam words and more powerful than standard searching.
Spam Scoring, such as assigning a score to each spam word and when the score reaches a certain number, it blocks the entire message.
Whitelisting so that when you send a message to someone, their response is never filtered as spam, etc.
Camel’s Eye can be found at sourceforge.net/projects/camelseye/ and has a GNU General Public License (GPL). It has been developed in Java and is OS independent allowing it to run on just about any operating system.
Sagator:
This program not only blocks spam but checks for viruses as well. This is a gateway, so you’ll need to set it up on an older PC and stick it between your computer and the internet connection.
The spam blocker is GNU General Public License (GPL) and built with C, Python working with all BSD and Posix Platforms (FreeBSD, Linux, etc) You can find Sagator at alstar.sk/sagator/
ASSP:
This is a fantastic free Spam Blocker for businesses! Before I purchased a hardware email filter (Barracuda Spam Filter), I used this program and it saved me thousands of dollars and worked great!
It comes with an easy to understand browser based setup, ties into your existing email server such as qmail, Postfix, Imail, Hmailserver, Kerio, Courier, Mercury, Lotus Notes – Mine was Microsoft Exchange 5.5.
Whitelists, blacklists, Redlist, Virus Scanning with ClamAV, Bayesian filter
What is really nice about this free email filter is that can detect and block spam before it reaches the server (you’ll have to read up on this, but it’s an awesome feature that saves a lot of resources).
Almost no maintenance required, can block spam bombs, detailed documentation and can listen on more than one port!
My description just brushes the top – there are way too many features to list on this page – suffice it to say, it’s probably the best free spam filter out there!
GPL, runs on Windows OS, Linus, OS X and more. Check out ASSP at assp.sourceforge.net/
If you know of a free spam blocker that should be included on this page, please let us know and we’ll review the software.
I am sick of daily junk mail I hope this works!
