The spoolss.exe process is used by Windows when printing to a printer. In order to speed up the printing process, and prevent the computer from having to wait for a printer to print a document, the document is first spooled to the computer’s hard disk. From there it is passed to the printer in the background. This process should be left running, if it is terminated printing may not work on your computer.

spoolss.exe is flagged as a system process and does not appear to be a security risk. However, removing Spool SubSystem may adversely impact your system.
